A bit of my history…

I keep too much stuff. Many of you probably don’t recognize these different computer storage media. When I started my career in the early 80’s, I had a dual 8” floppy drive connected to a HP 9845 computer. It was easier to make copies if you had a dual drive or one slot could hold your program disc and the other for your data disc.

In the upper left of the photo is an 8” floppy disc. Ahhh, memories of arguing whether it’s spelled disc or disk. The smaller floppy disc is 5.25”, which wasn’t as widely accepted and gave way to the introduction of the 3.5” disc. Yes, that is a Microsoft Windows 98 Boot disc. The 3.5” wasn’t a floppy anymore, so what do we call it? People had inventive names that were the opposite of floppy but thank goodness they didn’t stick.

Some of you savvy technophiles will notice the “write” tab on the 8” disc and might even know why it’s there.
